Legal knots: Ty-Tys

Ty-tys is a Nigerian brand that creates unique ties and bow ties using Ase-Oke fabric as well as vintage Damask. These ties are great for injecting a shot of colour into a dull outfit or adding a zing to a crisp white shirt.
What I found most fascinating about this line of Ase-Oke ties is that it is designed by a lawyer!
Given the jealous nature of the  law, it is always refreshing to see a lawyer branching out and combining active legal practice with other talents.

"Handy Louboutins"

Christian Louboutin is famous for his sexy, red heeled shoes. He's currently fighting a legal battle to make sure he stays distinctive with his red soles.
Until my Louboutins arrive, these will have to do:
Louboutin nails

Black on top and red under = Louboutins, lol

I had the Pigalle (120mm, to be exact) in mind when I had these done. But he has soooo many other great styles, that can be 'converted'. Have a go at it!

Stiletto Nails

This is one trend I'm currently enjoying. It even got me back into the nail salon to get acrylic..or were they gel?... nails again. I was such a fan a few years ago, but after a while I couldn't be bothered to keep up the salon trips.Read as constant injuries to my cuticles and don't forget that electric-shock pain that rips through you when you whack your nail against something, especially when you're due for a refill!
In fact, women are amazing! the things we subject ourselves to! lol

Had them done at Marie Noelle's @ Osu.
I forgot to Submit these beauties to Grazia's #ManicureMonday on twitter: @Grazia_Live, so you'll have to do :-)
Gold Nails to pick up the gold in  my dress. It was a pretty dull, cloudy day so it didn't look too bright, even with my gold sandals :-)
Thank you JenJen: white nail polish with OPI shatter effect in black

More shatter effect colours here
If prefer animal inspired nails, try the 'crocodile print' here

Glitz Africa Fashion Week(end)

I managed to miss the Glitz fashion week.

Why?
Because I've not been listening to Yfm and thanks to Vodafone, I still have nO broadband internet. I live under a rock so I heard about the 3 day show after I had fully booked my weekend. I still wanted to squeeze it in because I desperately wanted to see Aya Morrison strut her stuff. I need her swimsuits in my life!! *fingers crossed that she has 'em in my size*. Her swimwear is divine, it takes the fear out of exposing potentially wobbly bits by the pool or on the beach. It also doubles as motivation to get your body beach ready to rock one of her sexy African print inspired swimsuits.

How hot are they?!?!

Unfortunately I missed it :( but I will get that swimsuit by hook or by crook.
I will have to catch up on the excitement by reading all about it in Bentsifi's Tattle in The Mirror this Saturday.  And thanks to FashionistaGh I can actually get a glimpse of what I missed *sobs*

Were you at the Glitz fashion week?  How did it go? Who was your new discovery? You weren't? why not? Spill.

Jurist prudence: Can women be fashionable dressers and lawyers? - The Washington Post

Jurist prudence: Can women be fashionable dressers and lawyers? - The Washington Post:

'via Blog this'

This is a subject that keeps me up at night! Ask my friends, I'm not kidding. I don't want to give up style and become a wear-black-all-the-tine, stuffy, staid dresser just because I'm a lawyer. At the same time I don't want to look... inappropriate either.
God bless these women! I would Love to meet these women! I think I just found a couple of new legal role models!

Africa Style Daily

I have discovered a site that I keep going back to. It's Mission, as stated on Facebook is "A fashion news and culture site dedicated to the fabulosity in the African Diaspora!"
What's not to like about fabulosity!??
I enjoy the great features and exciting interviews. They speak to some really interesting people who are doing fascinating things. See for yourself, check out the website here. Don't forget to like their page on Facebook too: Africa Style Daily.  There's something new everyday, you won't be bored!
There's a Street style column on Fridays. Here I am, have a look *bats eyelashes*. I will be featured there for something else too, maybe after I finally [publish] my novel, lol.  Send your fabulous photos to blog@zandileblay.com and you can be featured you in their street style story too. Remember to add your first name, location, hometown, age and occupation.

Miss KG Kofi Mega Sandals

I spotted these while prowling around on ASOS. Its name drew me to them. I had a good laugh. I honestly won't be surprised if a 'burga' somewhere is nicknamed Kofi Mega. In Ghana a lot of Akan people get their first name from the day on which they were born. Kofi is for boys born on Friday. There must be a story behind this, don't you think? I would love to know what it is. Or did the the people at Kurt Geiger and Miss KG randomly hear the name Kofi and decided to name a shoe after it?

They look so comfortable but I didn't fancy the black [above] I felt the large, black straps would would make my feet look smaller and kind of lost in them and I wasn't digging the platform's loud print.
I did like the tan colour though [below]. It looked more forgiving, especially with its more subtly patterned platform. Plus at 22 pounds what's not to like?!??

My fellow size 5 sisters don't play though. They are forever the early birds, but if you're a UK size 7 or 8 and want a pair, this is your lucky day, grab it here now. There's an extra 10% off the up to 50% sale up for grabs, so remember to enter promo code 'EXTRA10' at checkout. (In typical fashion they sent this code after I had made my purchases, smh.) Anyway, if I can't have these shoes, I hope to help them find a good home where 'Kofi's are loved.

Finally! Round Sunnies

I’ve been looking for a pair of these for a while.

I remember the Olsen twins prancing around in them even before they exploded all over runways and appeared on other celebs. The John Lennon inspired sunnies have been all the rage since spring. I've been searching Ghana high and low for a suitable pair.
The situation wasn't helped by Aunty B wearing them all the time either. They seem to be her fave. I can swear she had them on almost every time she was pictured in sunnies.

Reminding me that I didn't own a pair *rolls eyes*.

Beyonce and Blue and  the Linda Farrow x The Row sunglasses
I don't know what I love more, the sunglasses or the  Prada Tail Light Flame Sandals!!

House of Harlow:  Vintage-inspired round oversized sunglasses featuring gold-tone logo at temples.

Well, my treasure hunt has finally ended! I feel soo...Ozzy Osborne in them! [It took all my will power not to throw up the peace sign, lol]. As with my others sunnies, I'm going to have my prescription put in them 1.So I can see 2. So none of my friends can nick them

this is for  #OZZY lol!
What fashion accessory have you been pining for lately??

Daydreaming of Fashion Law

I've liked fashion for a long time but I've only, just recently become aware of the existence of fashion law. If I hadn't already majored in Oil and Gas I might have taken a crack at it. [That would have been a truly interesting conversation with my very African dad, lol].
Imagine that: fashion and law! two of my favourite things together! Why am I just hearing about this??? *sigh*
Fashion law fascinates me. It's a relatively new niche in the field of law. Well, the fashion industry is a multi-million [insert any international currency here] industry which has relied on lawyers for a long time. It just didn't have the title 'fashion law'. Fordham is about the only school which has a Fashion Law institute. They  are organizing a boot camp on Fashion Law, I'm putting this on my wish list. Fashion law deals a lot with intellectual property law (incidentally one of the subjects I enjoyed the most) but I'm certain, like any other lawyers, fashion lawyers deal with contracting, licensing, mergers, perhaps health and safety compliance, maybe even a couple of wills, lol. I think it's such a cool title: *wears sunnies, strikes pose* "The Fashion Lawyer". If it was a course offered by a lot of law schools you would definitely find all the well dressed and well heeled fashionistas there.
Hmmm, Ghana's fashion industry is growing by the day....who knows?
;) look out

Hair Sale!!!

I love getting a great product at a great price, don't you???

Check out Exclusive hair on facebook! they're having a sale on all types of hair and textures: Brazilian,Malaysian, Cambodian, Indian...they could probably get you mermaid hair if you asked nicely, lol.

(One of my friends will come and quarrel with me about this post. We (Read as she talks and I listen) often disagree about natural hair. This is to pre-empt and hopefully stop her: I like changing my look. Period.I like straight hair, wavy hair, short, long...kinky or curly. I am not ashamed of my hair or it's natural texture. I just like changing my look. If it looks good I will rock it, whether it is mine or not, now shooooo!:p )

I have braids on right now,I think they're they most convenient do to write exams in...can't wait till I done though to try out something new.

The gorgeous girls who run Exclusive hair are nice enough to provide pleeeeenty of inspiration as to what you can do with your hair once you buy it:
Brazilian Straight curled with a curling wand into lovely spiral curls!
Frontal styled in an elegant side-swept bun

There are looads more ideas on their page. You should send an email to info@exclusive-hair.co.uk for a price list or more information and like them on Facebook.
Rush now, while stocks last...they even ship internationally...and the travel straightener freebie won't hurt either. RUSH!!

ps. I do know the people who run the page, but there's nothing in this for me and they didn't ask me to help them advertise. I just think they have great hair and that you should take advantage. Happy shopping xx

iBrows :)

What  have you been up to?
I've mostly been busy trying to be a good student and resisting the temptation to blog, or bake or visit my seamstress or look for shoes or clothes..
Quick question, why do people exaggerate like that?? I have been wanting to stage an intervention for my eyebrows for aaages! We need a therapist trust me :
*tears* Do you believe me now? even deserts have more vegetation that I have eyebrow hair. smh

I get by by drawing some one. I'm nowhere near as perfect as Blazerwhore  who has a whole tutorial video on it, but I get by.
Someone told me waxing would help, but I heard so many horror stories about the pain that I have been putting it off for the longest time. As for threading, don't go there, only wicked people can do that thing. So at my age, until the 26th of April 2012, I had never waxed my eyebrows.
*gasp*
(whatever :p )
I decided to man up and get it done and stop being a wuss!
So I went to Marie Noelle Spa (at Kuku Hill, in Osu, Accra) and they did it beautifully for me, I actually look like I have eyebrows now *bats eyelashes*
concentrate on eyebrow, ignore everything else :)

aaaaaaaaaaaaand it was even painful! uncomfortable at some point, yeah, but nothing life changing. AH!
Fear is a very bad thing. smh. Cowards really do die many times before their deaths.
Even yours truly with an incredibly low threshold for pain managed to get it done, so no one else has an excuse for mangy looking brows.
I'm feeling so super duper confident that I'm sure I can handle a Brazilian Wax too! lol.
I had my nails polished for a whopping ghc8 (yeah, cos my eyebrow wax cost only 10!) and it lasted a mere 2 days. By the 3rd day it was in such bad shape that I had to wipe it off because I was attending an engagement. A friend swears by their manicures so maybe I was just a fluke, but not again. I will return to get my eyebrows waxed though, loving the job done.

Fairytale Wedding Standard Raised!

No words necessary, just watch and gape in awe.

Afro Mod Trends!!

I'm busy trying to learn to pass my exams like a serious student, so non-academic things like blogging and baking and looking for clothes to wear have taken the back seat of a stretch limo.
But....a little doesn't hurt....I hope.
I have to talk about my tee from Afro Mod Trends! Check out their page and call (+233)(0) 209638613.
I go so many compliments about it that I had to share.
'un-amused' because I had a class on a Friday evening

Instead of paying attention...lol. In my defence, I was very hungry, had to distract myself.
Isn't it cute???
I like it, it kind of reminds me of this:
by Christie Brown

Ps. Just don't go pillow fighting or do anything vigorous while wearing your t-shirt, like I did, so you don't lose a button or three.

Now that's Posh!!

I'm a huge fan of Brand Beckham.
Why?
Because I'm in love with David Beckham and the only reason why I haven't set out on the path to be a home wrecker is because I'm equally madly in love with Victoria Beckham!  She was my fave Spice girl ( I think I might have taken a shine to heels because of her...not sure though) and now she's the uber cool designer of clothes celebs love to prance around in plus she has, what to me is, the  ideal family: a hot hubby, 3 boys with the last being an adorable girl (yeah a couple of million pounds wouldn't hurt either :D ) My boy and my girl got married, it doesn't get any more perfect than that.
And as if Range rovers weren't cool enough on it's own, they had to improve it by asking my girl (yes my girl *talk to the hand smiley*) VB to design one!

 *swoons*

(why  this post? I am up studying but I'm very sleepy. happened to come across these gorgeous pics. Have to stay up so my fees can buy me one of these 80,000 pound cars if I'm lucky enough to get one of the 200 that will be made...there: Motivation! * Kelly Rowland's voice* lol!)

Thanks SO Aesthetic and Ugodeal

I forgot to show you my lashes from SO Aesthetic. The ones Ugodeal helped me nab for half price.
I love them!!!! Intend to go back and get the glue so I can recreate the look at home. I was told they would only last a day but they lasted 4! and I pried them off myself, they didn't fall off.
I got loads of compliments. I fooled so many people into thinking they were natural. They didn't look Jordan or Nicki Minaj fake (not that I have any actual problems with the fake look,...but on most days it is a bit much for us mere mortals with simple, peasant lives, especially when you look as if there should be 'Made in China' etched on your back)
Anyhoo... here it is:
batting my eyelashes was my favourite activity those 4 days....no!!! it was listening to compliments AND batting the lashes in thanks :)
I cant post more pictures because I was in a hurry to rush off to school, so my long face was looking even longer than usual. This should do.
Love them! Felt very cute and vain the entire time I had 'em on...must repeat feeling soon!

a spot of unpaid advertising: Ugodeal

Since no one is handing me any amount of the Woyome cake, not even 2k *sigh* I am busying myself with other ways to look and feel like a few billion (old) cedis.
I signed up to a newsletter, called Ugodeal, sometime ago which gives me discounts and coupons for restaurants, leisure activities, shops etc. (which can apparently mean end of thinking capacity, by the way ,lol). I think it's pretty cool because I like trying out new places and things and it sure takes the pinch out of it when you don't pay full price, especially when you have a not-so-good-experience.
It offers members money off services, or meals or items. You have to purchase the deal from Ugo deal - pay through their bank accounts or with mobile money. You print off the deal coupon when it becomes available and take it to the 'merchant' to redeem your discount. (please call ahead first, just to be safe)
I will be using it for the first time today, going to have my lashes done at So Aesthetic. I can't wait!

I remember signing up and paying for a discount card when I was in Uni, the student discount card. Let's just say I didn't have such a super positive experience with them and leave it at that.

I'm really praying the Black Stars whop Zambia in the match today! I can't afford to lose any weight screaming in frustration at the TV screen! O Dear God, please play our faulty positions for us, as usual and let us be victorious so we give u praise (accompanied by both christozonto and azonto dance forms ;)
amen!

Niggling questions :)

Androgynous is defined as having the characteristics or nature of both male and female or
neither specifically feminine nor masculine or suitable to or
for either sex for eg. androgynous clothing.

Ever so often I like wearing suits and a tie or bow tie or braces and brogues to experiment androgynous looks. Nothing special about that.
We've all met at least one person whose gender we immediately couldn't decipher, right? But it usually becomes apparent pretty soon - as in the cases of very pretty boys and extremely boyish girls.

This is different. And Special!

The first time I saw Andrej Pejic I was completely blown away. I could NOT and still CANNOT believe he is a man! His waist is probably smaller than mine and I'm pretty small!
He's pictured here (for Brazilian label Auslander's Spring 2012 campaign:
I need to know: Where are his....u know...bits??!?
He looks extra girly beside Rico the Zombie

I still can't believe it and do a double take every time..

every single time..

smh.
It's not even fair.
Ps. Is there a picture of his bits anywhere??? ...he has...bits..right??
o_0
right??
pps. Any black men this androgynous?? just curious
